  • Mosquito Control

Mosquito-borne diseases are illnesses transmitted to humans through the bite of infected mosquitoes. These diseases include malaria, dengue fever, Zika virus, West Nile virus, chikungunya, and yellow fever. Mosquitoes become carriers of these viruses or parasites after feeding on an infected person or animal.

Symptoms vary depending on the disease but often include fever, headache, muscle pain, rash, and in severe cases, neurological complications or bleeding. Prevention focuses on reducing mosquito exposure by using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, eliminating standing water where mosquitoes breed, and using screened or air-conditioned living spaces. Effective lawn maintenance and landscaping practices, such as proper trimming and removing stagnant water from yards, can significantly reduce mosquito breeding grounds around homes and businesses.

  • Kissing Bug

The kissing bug, belonging to the Triatominae subfamily, is known for transmitting Chagas disease, a potentially serious illness caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi. This disease is primarily found in the Americas, especially in rural areas of Latin America, and it can have significant health impacts if left untreated.

Kissing bugs are nocturnal insects that feed on the blood of mammals, including humans. They often bite around the lips or face, which is how they got their common name. The transmission of Chagas disease occurs when the bug defecates near the bite site; the parasite enters the body when a person inadvertently rubs the infected feces into the wound, eyes, or mouth.

Chagas disease has two phases: acute and chronic. The acute phase may show mild or no symptoms, sometimes including swelling at the bite site, fever, fatigue, and body aches. If untreated, the infection can progress to the chronic phase, potentially leading to severe heart and digestive system complications, including heart failure and issues with the esophagus or colon.
